In addition to lifting the four screws, the drone has wings, tail assembly and the fifth screw, which pushes the quadcopter forward. The hybrid takes off like a normal drone, and after climbing, thanks to the design, it goes into horizontal flight in airplane mode. "At this moment, the lifting screws are turned off, which leads to significant energy savings," the report says.

A prototype can lift a load of 2.5 kg and transport it at a speed of 70 km / h to a distance of 75 km. Existing cargo multicopter with similar take-off weight transport such cargo over a distance of no more than 15 km at a speed of 75 km / h.

“Now many people are trying to use quadrocopters for delivering small loads, but the problem is that traditional drones are very inefficient in horizontal flight. They cannot plan, so they have to spend most of their energy not on the flight itself, but simply on keeping the drone in the air. This greatly limits the range and speed of flight, because the battery's energy supply is limited, ”said Ilya Zverkov, scientific consultant of the project, professor at the Aircraft and Helicopter Engineering Department of the NSTU, who reports.
